Charity Knitting Resources

Making items for charity is an important part of the North Georgia Knitting Guild. Each year we set goals to encourage members to donate handmade items that we distribute to local organizations that truly appreciate our efforts. Each item donation earns an entry into our quarterly charity raffle to win some great prizes!
Project kits with patterns and yarn are available at our monthly meetings, but you are welcome to use your own patterns and/or yarn. Please visit our Charity Table at our meetings to browse through our project kits and yarns and to turn in your completed items.
If using your own yarn, please not that some patterns/organizations require specific yarns or fibers.

Charity items we welcome:

  • Baby and Child blankets*
  • Baby and Preemie hats*
  • Chemo hats/caps for women and children*
  • Knitted Knockers* (If using our project kits, please return any leftover yarn and yarn label with your completed knockers)
  • Cowls, scarves, hats, mittens, and gloves for children, teens, women, and men
  • Animal blankets for cats & dogs – 14″x14″, 24″x24″, or 36″x36″

Yarns:

Most charity items are best made in medium weight (Aran/Worsted, weight 4), machine washable and dryable acrylic yarns. Some of our items require specific yarns or fibers:
  1. *Baby Hats, Preemie Hats, and Blankets are best made in very soft, baby weight (DK or Sport, weight 3), machine washable and dryable yarns.
  2. *Chemo Hats/Caps are best made in very soft, machine washable and dryable yarns. Please enclose each pre-washed chemo hat in a separate Ziploc bag as required by the Cancer Center. For more information and a recommended yarn list visit www.knotsoflove.org
  3. *Knitted Knockers (knitted prosthesis for mastectomy patients) have specific yarn requirements. Cascade Ultra Pima Cotton in natural skin tones is highly recommended. For more information on Knitted Knockers and to view their complete yarn list and patterns visit www.knittedknockers.org.
